The annual fee for maintenance, upkeep and taxes is $1200.
Located in lush and beautiful southeast Orne Normandy. The countryside is exceptionally green and beautiful, not like the dry hot south of France. Temperatures are very moderate.
St. Clair is a wonderful home base from which to explore western and southwestern France by car, train, and bicycle to Mont Saint-Michel, St. Malo, the Normandy beaches, the Bayeux Tapestry museum in Caen, west to the Celtic ruins of Brittany, the Fougères fortress, Belle Isle, to the Loire valley castles, the port of La Rochelle, Bordeaux and the Dordogne river valley.
About the Area
You can camp and cycle extensively. Provincial French hotels are amazingly cheap and excellent quality. One of the great joys of this area of France are the thousands of tiny but perfectly paved rural roads with beautiful ancient medieval villages every 10-15 km, most of which have acceptable cafes and restaurants . Why cook when you’re in Normandy where restaurants are so good and affordable?
Another great pleasure on summer weekends are the many classical concerts held in ancient village churches, often free. The 11th century Sées cathedral near us was the site of the last remake of the film of Jeanne d'Arc. Delicious farmers markets as well as antique stores, flea markets, forest hiking trails, and country inns abound. This is the good life in France!
Access
2 hours by train or car from Paris.
Some owners have kept a car at the cottages. For a time, an old Citroen 2CV with roll-up top and bike rack on the roof was used for traveling in style like a local, and a 2004 Chevrolet, a bit more practical.
