High above Fabro, the nearest town with rail links to Rome and to Florence, lies the picturesque medieval town of Monteleone d’Orvieto.
Casa Leone is in the old town and is classically furnished and unusually bright and airy for a village home. It offers a perfect window to the sights of Tuscany and Umbria!
Monteleone d’Orvieto was founded in 1052, as a castle guarding the northern boundaries of Orvieto. The village is wonderful and you can see remains of the medieval walls.
Our house, inside the old village gates, has original cobblestone streets, a bank, small grocery, a bar, church, and museum. The vista is lovely! One can easily walk to the newer part of town where locals meet for tapas at Café Seven and where you’ll find 2 or 3 restaurants, an olive oil producer, school, etc.
Casa Leone (House of the Lion) was discovered ten years by two of my fractional owners from France who were helping me scout for possible new co-ownership opportunities in Italy. And mama mia, the one we found is “molta bene”!
Not only will this spacious home sleep 8-10, you will discover a vaulted wine cellar underneath the ground level Taverna. And the more you look, the more you see. From the wine cellar, a system of underground tunnels links many of the original dwellings in this remarkable historic village. Here’s a video to enjoy.
